The inaugural Miami ad:tech show, held at the Miami Beach Convention Center June 26-27 was a success by my metrics. It was well attended. It offered content not found at other ad:tech conferences and it opened the eyes of many to the burgeoning Latin American and Hispanic marketplaces. While many of the panelists and speakers agreed definitive research on the space is lacking, there is no doubt each demographic group has left its minority status behind and are fast becoming a major influence on the American scene. And “they” isn’t even the proper word. After all, there’s really no “we” and “they.” There’s just “us.” Americans. The people that live together on this soil, fuel its multi-faceted culture and buy a lot of stuff.

On the eve of ad:tech Miami, it is hot. Seriously hot. Soak through your shirt in ten minutes hot. Of course, that didn’t keep us off Miami beach. On a Monday, it was uncrowded but there were the occasional sites to see here and there. Even in 90 plus and humid weather, a guy was having an afternoon jog...in full sweats… down the beach like it was fall in New York. Guess you get used to it. Even the water is unrefreshingly bath water warm. Oh but we’re not complaining. It’s one of the nicest beaches around and there are never enough opportunities to appreciate the barely-dressed human form so we’re just going to appreciate it for what it is.

All the large search players from Google to MSN to Yahoo will be there as well as the industry’s finest experts in the field on online marketing including Yahoo Hispanic Americas GM Jose Rivera-Font, AOL Latino Publisher Mark Lopez, MTV Digital Media VP Luis Goicouria, Nieles Buzzmetrics CMO Pete Blackshaw, NBC Universal Telemundo Senior VP Peter Blacker and many more.
A recently announced keynote, led by Advertising Age International and Multicultural Editor Laurel Wentz, will examine how the delivery of content has been flipped on its head with consumers creating as much if not more content that traditional content producers.
