Wednesday an Eye Blasting Arena of Massive Guitar Hero Action

Posted by Steve Hall · Thursday November 06, 2008

While not as busy as Monday or Tuesday night, Wednesday at ad:tech New York offered up quite a few things for ad:tech attendees to do after the day’s panels ended. Wine Library’s Gary Vaynerchuk gave a “motivational speech” to several hundred people at The Volstead but it didn’t turn out quite as planned. Even with a few hundred people there to hear Gary speak, the club refused to turn down the music in favor of serving the eight people in the club not associate with the Mashable event.

Posted by Steve Hall · Thursday November 06, 2008

Battle of the Agency Bands

Posted by Angela Natividad · Thursday November 06, 2008

With help from the disarming Alice Anda (and the kind indulgence of Massive’s Cassandra Nuttal), ad:tech’s blog crew crashed last night’s Battle of the Agency Bands, a Guitar Hero party sponsored by Massive.

Suited up like charming schizophrenics, agency bands played a random Guitar Hero song for a crowd composed of their own cohorts. I wish I could attach the agency name to each of these videos, but we were in and out in two shakes—too quickly to info-gather. One of them is MediaVest; and creatives from Ogilvy performed, but I didn’t catch footage.

Obama Ignites Souls—and Dancing Feet—of Manhattanites

Posted by Angela Natividad · Wednesday November 05, 2008

I was fresh into university when California governor Gray Davis was ousted. In what I shortsightedly conceived to be the most politically significant moment I’d be destined to see in my lifetime, Arnold Schwarzenegger replaced him in Sacramento. I felt seized by the fever of the time, and vowed to always remember what it was like to be passionate about the pulse of government.

That was just a handful of years ago. Today my mind is filled with watershed events that vastly eclipse that first taste: a mortgage crisis, the dramatic collapse of hulking financial institutions, and a black Presidential incumbent pitted against Hillary Clinton for the Democratic ticket, then against another woman—Republican VP candidate Sarah Palin—for the right to walk with proprietary pride across the vast square footage of the White House.

Last night, a handful of ad:techies learned the results of the November 4 election over a dinner hosted by Susan Bratton, the DishyMix queen bee. I sat between social medialyte Dave Evans and a well-traveled guy called Roy. We ordered duck gizzards and spun casual, but slightly taut, conversation.

Amidst ad:tech, A New President is Chosen, Union Square Celebrates

Posted by Steve Hall · Wednesday November 05, 2008

So after dinner at West Branch with several colleagues and industry acquaintances and a visit to the Huffington Post election party, a 40 block walk home ensued. Yes, 40 blocks. Hey, it was a nice night for a walk. On the way home, a large crowd of people had congregated in Union Square as if Obama himself was about to show up. Of course, he didn’t but that didn’t stop the hundreds (thousands?) from celebrating. No matter one’s political leanings, the engagement of so many in this election process and win is impressive.

Photographic goodness here.

Crowded Monday Night Party Scene Makes For Short Lines

Posted by Steve Hall · Tuesday November 04, 2008

While we make every goal to visit every party at ad:tech so we can bring you all the goodness you may have missed because you decided to stay home and, unlike the rest of us, get some actual sleep, it was simply impossible. In all, there were ten known parties related to ad:tech last night. Have were early cocktail-style parties, half were late night throbfests.

We (being Angela from Adrants, Krista and Andy from Photrade, Carla from Blast PR and several others) made it to the Oldtimers party at the Thom Bar, the Epic party at Marquee, The Money Makers party at Pacha and the Copeac’Intermark party at Touch. We finished the evening with really, really big cheeseburgers at Maison.

The one major benefit of a busy party night? Short lines.

Here’s the photographic evidence.

Akamai, ChaCha Announce Parties at New York ad:tech

Posted by Steve Hall · Wednesday October 22, 2008

Two more parties have been announced. ChaCha will host a Happy Hour on Wednesday evening, November 5 at 5PM at the Hilton Bridges bar. You can’t get any closer than that so wander down after you’re done with sessions or whatever else you’re doing on day 3 of ad:tech. RVSP here.

From 6PM to 9PM, Akamai will be hosting a party at the IAC building, home to over 35 companies in the interactive space. Hmm. Kind of like CMGI in the late 90’s. Anyway, its downtown at 555 W 18th Street. RSVP here.

Also on Wednesday night are the Gary V talk and the eyeblaster Awards party.

Yes, it’s a busy week but if you try really, really hard, you can definitely make it to every event. Just consider it some sort of competition. Make bets. Pretend you are in Las Vegas. Check out the full party schedule here. (Click Agenda)

Posted by Steve Hall · Thursday October 16, 2008

The party begins at 8PM with open bar, hors d’oeuvres with the awards MC’s by Comedy Central’s Andrew Kennedy. Arena is located at 135 West 41st street. More information here.

Perhaps the will make a return appearance and tear up the dance floor like he did at last year’s party.

Fourth, Yes, Fourth Monday Night ad:tech Party Announced

Posted by Steve Hall · Tuesday October 14, 2008

Needless to say Monday night during ad:tech New York this year is going to be a busy one. Because the election occurs Tuesday night, companies are avoiding hosting parties that night as if it were illegal to drink and have fun while watching the results role in. Consequently, everyone is scheduling parties Monday night and ignoring Tuesday night completely, not to mention Wednesday night (ad:tech doesn’t end until Thursday). With at least four known parties occurring Monday night, making it to all of them is going to make for an interesting challenge.

The most recently announced party is the Headlines & Heroes Money Makers II Party at Pacha from 9PM until 2AM. Pacha, which rocked during last year’s New York ad:tech, is located at 618 West 46th Street.

Presidential Election ‘Ruins’ ad:tech Party Scene

Posted by Steve Hall · Wednesday October 08, 2008

The presidential election is really screwing up the ad:tech New York party schedule. No one wants to have a party on election night perhaps in fear of minimizing its importance. And really, do we all want to be drunk when the winner is announced? Well, depending upon the outcome, maybe we do. Because of this, all the companies are hosting parties Monday night with one hosting a party Sunday night. The rest of the week? Crickets so far. People, ad:tech runs through Thursday! Anyone up for hosting a party Wednesday night? Come on.

So for now, here’s the party schedule so far:

Sunday: XY7.com No Bull Party at Johnny Utah’s beginning at 9PM. At 10:30PM, there will be a mechanical bull riding bikini contest. Yes, you read that right. This party is invite only but you can check out the RSVP form here.

Monday: Oldtimers at Thom bar beginning at 7PM. Closed private party.

Monday: Copeac/Intermark at Touch New York. The time and details are not yet known.

Monday: Epic at Marquee from 9PM to 2AM. Open bar until midnight. RSVP to .

Tuesday: Election Night. Nothing but there’s got to be a place where everyone can gather and have a few drinks while watching the results.

Wednesday: Wide open. Someone. Anyone. Please step in.

Marquee Will be Epic Monday Night During ad:tech

Posted by Steve Hall · Wednesday October 08, 2008

On Monday night, November 3, Epic will host a party at Marqee located at 289 10th Avenue. It’s the second party announced of the evening following the Copeac/Intermark party at Touch. The Epic party begins at 9PM with an open bar until midnight. Since Copeac/Intermark has not announced the time their party will take place, hopefully it will have an early start so it doesn’t conflict too much with the Epic party. It’s never a good thing wanting to be in two places at once.

It’s All About Bull Riding and Bikinis at XY7.com’s No Bull Party

Posted by Steve Hall · Sunday September 28, 2008

How was this missed last year? XY7.com is hosting its second annual No Bull Party Sunday November 2 at Johnny Utah’s in New York to kick off ad:tech 2008. There will be drink tickets. There will be mechanical bull riding. There will (yes!) be a bikini bull riding contest. It all begins at 9PM with the bikini bull riding contest at 10:30 after everyone’s properly liquored up and cares about potential embarrassment and unintentionally flashed body parts are cast aside.

The party is invitation only but you can RSVP at this site here. Bull riding. Drinking. Bikinis? What’s not to love?
